Our Commitment to Safety
Vulcan's goal as it pertains to safety is to provide a place of employment as free as possible from hazards. To reach this goal, a rigorous safety initiative was established in 2000, which is alive and thriving today. Through continuous improvement efforts of this program, a Corporate Safety Committee (CSC), as well as individual Plant Safety Teams
(PSTs) were developed to execute proper implementation of a steadfast safety culture at Vulcan. The CSC, along with members of the PSTs, have been challenged to ensure that safety remains at the forefront of every process and procedure that takes place within our organization. Every meeting at Vulcan starts with a brief safety topic and safety training is a weekly occurrence for all employees. Peer-to-peer safety observations occur daily, which helps personalize safety training and techniques to each production employee's work area.
This program incorporates educational and monitoring procedures developed to teach safety, correct deficiencies and provide a safe, clean, and healthy working environment. Following the guidelines of our safety program ensures compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) laws and regulations.
- Our current safety slogan, "Tomorrow, your reward for working safely today!" is an excellent reminder of why we all must make safety our number one priority.
- The Vulcan Health & Safety Fair is an annual event that brings together employees and local vendors for the chance to educate our employees about what is available in our area in the realm of health and safety.
Our Commitment to American Manufacturing
In today's world, where outsourcing to foreign factories is common, Vulcan, Inc., is proud its operations are in the United States of America. Vulcan began as a small sign manufacturer in Birmingham,
Alabama in 1935 and became incorporated on October 28, 1966 and in 1968 we moved our operations to the Gulf Coast in Foley, Alabama. For the past 80 years, we have continued to grow and diversify. Now, on our 32
acre campus in Foley there are 5 vertically integrated manufacturing divisions, an Engineering, Maintenance and Compliance (EMC) Department, a Human Resources Department, Technology Center and General Offices.
We contribute much of our success to the hard work of our employees and are proud to say that in 1975, Vulcan became the first Employee Owned Company in Alabama, giving ownership of the corporation to the employees.
